Financial clarity

Your numbers should answer your questions.

You shouldn’t have to wait until tax time or stare at a P&L wondering what it’s actually telling you to understand how your business is doing.

Do we have enough cash for what’s coming? Can I afford to hire another employee?Which customers, services, or projects are actually profitable? Why was profit lower than I expected?Should I raise my prices? What happens if sales slow down? Can the business afford this investment?Where are we likely to be in 3, 6, or 12 months?
That’s the difference

Those aren’t bookkeeping questions. They’re business questions your financials should help you answer. That’s where SmartScale goes beyond keeping the books.

Who we help

Built for growing businesses that need more from their numbers.

SmartScale works with U.S. small businesses that need reliable bookkeeping, better financial insight, or experienced financial guidance without building an in-house finance team.

You may be a good fit if:

  • Your business is growing, but your financial reporting hasn’t kept pace.
  • You have revenue coming in, but you’re not always sure where the cash is going.
  • You want to understand profitability by customer, service, project, or product.
  • You’re making hiring, pricing, spending, or growth decisions without a clear financial picture.
  • You already have a bookkeeper or CPA but need forecasting, analysis, and decision support.

Especially useful for:

Professional Services
Margins, labor costs, capacity, pricing, and customer profitability.

Agencies & Creative Businesses
Client and project profitability, team utilization, and pricing.

Service Businesses
Cash flow, labor, overhead, pricing, and growth.

E-commerce & Product Businesses
Gross margin, product profitability, cash requirements, and the true cost of growth.

Not sure which service fits?

You don’t need to diagnose it yourself — here’s a rough guide.

“I just need someone to keep the books accurate and current.”

“The books or processes are messy and need to be fixed.”

Financial Clean-Up & Systems →

“We have bookkeeping, but the accounting processes and reporting need more structure.”

Controller Services →

“The numbers are right — I need to understand what they’re telling me and what’s coming.”

FP&A & Forecasting →

“I’m making bigger business decisions and need an experienced financial perspective.”

Not sure where you fit?

That’s okay — you don’t need to diagnose it first.

Maybe the books need attention. Maybe the numbers are fine but aren’t telling you enough. Either way, that’s a good place to start.

Why SmartScale

Corporate finance experience.
Small-business perspective.

I spent more than 15 years in corporate accounting and FP&A, building budgets and forecasts, analyzing profitability, improving reporting, and helping leaders understand what the numbers meant for the business.

For more than 20 years, I’ve also helped with the bookkeeping and financial side of my husband’s small business. That gave me a firsthand view of how different small-business finance can be from corporate finance.

I also taught high school math. That combination shapes how I work today: financial discipline and analytical thinking, made practical and understandable for small-business owners.

Financial clarity works better when it’s a conversation.

You won’t just receive reports and spreadsheets. We’ll look at the numbers together, focus on what matters, and talk through what they mean for your business, so you can make decisions with a clearer financial picture.

How it works

Financial support without the maze.

You bring the business questions. I’ll help determine the right level of financial support.

1

Start with a conversation

Tell me what’s happening, what’s frustrating you, and what you’re trying to figure out. You don’t need to know which service you need.

2

Figure out what you actually need

I’ll look at where your financials stand and recommend the appropriate level of support.

3

Get the foundation in place

If cleanup or bookkeeping is needed first, we start there. If your numbers are reliable, we can move directly into analysis and planning.

4

Turn the numbers into something useful

We establish a rhythm around the information your business needs, what I’m seeing, and what deserves attention next.

Pricing

Clear pricing. No mystery meeting required.

Every business is different, but you should have a reasonable idea what financial support may cost before you book a call.

Common Questions

A few things you may be wondering.

Do I need bookkeeping, FP&A, or a fractional CFO?

You don’t need to figure that out before contacting me. Bookkeeping keeps records accurate and current. FP&A adds budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and forward-looking insight. Fractional CFO support adds ongoing financial strategy and decision support. We’ll determine what makes sense based on where your business is today.

Do you only work with businesses in Georgia?

No. SmartScale works remotely with businesses across the U.S.

What size businesses do you work with?

SmartScale is generally a good fit for established and growing small businesses that have reached the point where better financial information would help them make better decisions. Many are in roughly the $500K to $5M revenue range, but revenue alone doesn’t determine fit.

Can I hire you just for bookkeeping?

Yes. Bookkeeping is available as a standalone service. If you later need forecasting, profitability analysis, or CFO support, those services can grow with you.

I already have a bookkeeper. Can you still help?

Absolutely. If your books are accurate and current, SmartScale can work from them to provide forecasting, financial analysis, profitability reporting, KPIs, and CFO-level decision support.

Do you replace my CPA?

No. SmartScale works alongside your tax professional. Your CPA or tax advisor can continue handling tax planning and filings while SmartScale focuses on the ongoing reporting, analysis, forecasting, and decision support you use to run the business.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

SmartScale engagements are designed to be flexible. Most ongoing services do not require a long-term commitment, and cancellation terms are outlined in your service agreement based on the engagement.

What happens on the first call?

We’ll talk about your business, what’s working, what’s frustrating you, and the financial questions you’re trying to answer. It’s a conversation, not a sales presentation. If SmartScale is a good fit, I’ll explain what I recommend and what the next step would look like.

Ready when you are

Stop wondering what the numbers are trying to tell you.

Whether you need cleaner books, a clearer view of what’s ahead, or an experienced financial partner for bigger decisions, SmartScale can help turn your financial information into something you can actually use.

Not sure what you need? That’s exactly what the call is for.
