The person behind the numbers

Meet Amy Towriss

Corporate finance experience. Small-business perspective.

After 15 years working in corporate accounting, finance, and FP&A, I started SmartScale to bring the same level of financial discipline, analysis, and forward-looking insight to growing small businesses, without making finance more complicated than it needs to be.

A CFO's brain,
a teacher's patience

My career has taken me through both accounting and finance, from managing the financial details that have to be right to building forecasts, analyzing profitability, developing budgets, and helping leaders understand what the numbers mean for the business.

I've worked as an Accounting Manager, Finance Manager, and Senior Financial Analyst, building the kind of reporting, processes, models, and financial analysis larger companies rely on to make decisions.

But small business isn't something I only know from the corporate side. For more than 20 years, I've also helped with the bookkeeping and financial side of my husband's small business. I understand that smaller businesses don't have departments full of people handling accounting, reporting, forecasting, and analysis. Often, the owner is trying to piece all of that together while also running the business.

That combination is a big part of why I started SmartScale.

I don't want to hand you a report or forecast and walk away. I want you to understand what the numbers are telling you, why they matter, and what they mean for the decisions in front of you.

Why SmartScale exists

Small businesses need financial answers too.

Large companies have finance teams dedicated to budgeting, forecasting, profitability, cash planning, reporting, and financial analysis. Small-business owners need many of those same answers. They just rarely need, or can justify, an entire finance department.

SmartScale was created to close that gap.

Sometimes that means keeping the books accurate and current. Sometimes it means strengthening accounting processes. Sometimes it means building a forecast, understanding profitability, or helping an owner think through a major decision.

The level of support can change. The goal stays the same: give business owners financial information they can understand and actually use.

Background & perspective

What I bring to your business

Accounting + Finance

My background spans both sides of the financial function, from accounting processes, reconciliations, close, and financial reporting to budgeting, forecasting, profitability, and financial modeling.

Corporate-Level Financial Discipline

I bring the processes, analysis, and financial rigor used in larger organizations and adapt them to what is practical and useful for a small business.

Real Small-Business Perspective

I've spent more than 20 years helping with the financial side of a small business. I understand that the technically perfect answer isn't very useful if it doesn't work in the reality of running the company.

Making Finance Understandable

I also spent time teaching math, and that experience still shapes how I work today. I know how to take something complicated and make it easier to understand. You shouldn't have to speak accounting or finance to understand your own business.

Good financial support shouldn't make you feel like you need a finance degree. It should make the business easier to understand.

What I believe

Your numbers should help you run the business.

Small-business owners deserve more than accurate books. They deserve to understand what their numbers mean.

Financial information should help you answer questions, anticipate problems, evaluate opportunities, and make decisions with a clearer picture of what those decisions mean for the business.

That's what SmartScale is here to provide.

Let's connect

Let's talk about your business.

You don't need to know whether you need bookkeeping, Controller support, FP&A, or a Fractional CFO. Tell me what's happening, what you're trying to understand, and where the financial side feels harder than it should.
